I don't think she meant to be hurtful and mad at all. What I personally believe is that she is just broken inside and so insecure about herself that she won't believe in any compliments directed toward her, that's what I see in her reaction :)

This reaction often occurs when you have been or are affected by bullying. It is an automatic defensive reaction to protect yourself. I had this reaction myself when I was a teenager.
